Started under saddle in early 2004 as a 3 year old, she went to her first local show in April 04 with only 14 days of riding. She was shown in walk/trot classes under Sierra, age 10. Though they didn't "ribbon" in many of their classes, she displayed a remarkable sense of easy dependability.
"Star" shows a really round bascule over cross rails when free lounged. In April of 2005 she was started over cross rails and was shown at a local show in Wade, NC in June. She did awesome and ribboned in that class, but more important, she again displayed a no-nonsense attitude of performing her job.
In December 2005, Star got a new job. She is to be a 4H project for Ashley Ross. Ashley is one of Sierra's classmates and has ridden off and on with us since Dec 2004. Ashley is learning natural horsemanship techniques on Star as well as improving her riding skills. Right now, they are spending the majority of time learning in the roundpen. Ashley did most of the trace clip to make it easier to work with Star in limited daylight hours.
On March 18th, 2006, Dani Eldridge visited us with her father, Bret. She rode "Star" in the roundpen for a short bit. Wynn Norman of Sportponies Unlimited was also with us and took pictures and video of "Star" & Sierra. Then Wynn came back out and had a student of hers ride "Star".
Star was down at Whitehaven Plantation in Bishopville, NC from Memorial Day Weekend 07 through Christmas 07. She enjoyed life with her pasture mate, Xena. After returning home, she has been trail ridden by Ashley Ross. She has also been ridden for several starting lessons with Michael Porter & his two cousins.
STAR'S PRODUCE
We had found Star in our roundpen w/ AJ when we arrived on a September day in 03. Didn't think anything about it - he wasn't interested in her and she willingly returned to where she should have been. No signs of breeding & no injuries. One year later - on August 2, 2004, "Surprise"! "Surprise" went with "Gel" to Michele Martin in Crumpler, NC in October 2005.
