"Cricket" Chelseaira MHF - AHR# 506103 . (Mateusz MLA x Kaierra) 1993 Grey Arabian mare standing 14.2 hh.

I first met "Cricket" when we purchased "Chaunter" and were keeping her at Carolyn's Training Center in Rockfish, NC. "Cricket" was owned by Wendy Hakala. I watched a few of her riding sessions and then Wendy moved to another boarding barn. Wendy and "Cricket" went on to show at the Class A Arabian show in Raleigh in August 1999 in country english pleasure but at this time I don't know how they placed. Wendy said she was a firecracker in the ring - just like they were sending off.

Later in 1999, Wendy moved her stallion - VP Charade and "Cricket" out to NSE Stables where I took over their care. In February 2000, Wendy trotted to our house and grabbed me late in the evening - "She's foaling!!! Help!!"... And I helped bring "Figgy", sired by "Charade", into the world. After getting her start at NSE's barn, the pair were transfered down the road to the 5 acre pasture we leased. "Figgy" ran with the 1 1/2 arab foal and 3 other pony foals that we had that year from March through August 2000. In July, Wendy and her family moved to NY, leaving Charade at NSE and "Cricket" and "Figgy" with us. And in August, I put the threesome on a trailer to head up to NY.

Wendy called me from NY to say that they were transporting Cricket to California (Cricket is a very well traveled mare, now!!) to have her 2001 foal before they moved out to join her. She delivered a HUGE filly that was going grey almost from day one. "Lil - Bit" was anything but!

In late 2003, Wendy called again to say that "Cricket" was heading my direction from CA. We agreed to the transfer and "Cricket" arrived - but in surprisingly not the best of shape. She was underweight and sore - through no-one's actual fault. She stayed at NSE rather than in our pasture to give me a chance to work with her easily in the evenings. In January 2004, she moved with us to Lillington. I didn't get to work w/ her much until 2005 - when we started doing some serious riding and found that she needed some help to understand staying calm and working well on trails.

"Cricket" went to Trisha Blackwell at Whitehaven Plantation in May 2007. She is getting back into good shape with the help of a couple of students and they are loving having her there. She went with White Haven to the 2007 Region 12 Arabian Youth Jamboree in July and was ridden by Jennifer in clinics & at the Open Show.
